Recently I read Joshua Cooper Ramos’ book   The Age of the Unthinkable.  That title is a great description of our time.  We live in the age of the unthinkable.  Ramos says we are in a time when our assumed categories about what’s important and what we need to measure are missing what is actually happening on the ground.  The forces now shaping us are outside these established categories, they are non-linear, that is, they won't fit inside the established logic, the taken-for-granted maps within which experts function.  In a time of massive cultural change, the real driver of change is the unexpected.  Focusing on well established categories and measurables is worse than useless.

Our World is Changing!

How we address the issues of being the church today in the midst of huge culture change will shape us tomorrow. How we lead today cannot be how we lead tomorrow.  The standard answers operating in our churches and among our leaders today can only misdirect us. Becoming vital centers of mission in our communities no longer depends on categories we've taken for granted.  Focusing on improving worship, developing better evangelism, getting more imaginative discipleship programs or creating a passionate spirituality will no longer get at the levels of change we face - we live in an age of the unthinkable.

What is the Roxburgh Missional Network?

The RMN is a team of missional practitioners committed to partnering with you in calling forth such churches and forming the leaders who can do just that.  We invite you to discover in these pages ways of partnering on a journey into a time and space that is new for all of us.  It's challenging and crazy time but it’s the only place where we will catch the wind of the Spirit blowing us into new waters.

We are a seasoned practitioners and teachers who have worked with pastors, local churches, denominational leaders and training schools around the world addressing leadership and missional transformation for over 20 years. We understand the needs of local and denominational leaders because we’ve been there ourselves. We have worked alongside all levels of church leadership.  Our ‘hands-on’ experience gives us insight into the challenges facing local churches, denominations and schools.

We’re committed to the church and its leadership.  We don’t believe the days of the local church are over; we see an important future for denominations.  While deep change is needed, we believe that in the formations and reformations of our varying traditions are the resources and energies for implementing fresh expressions of mission-shaped life.

You don't need more vague ideas or criticism but real-time, concrete, hands-on resources and tools that give pastors, denominational leaders and congregations the capacities to address their challenges in forming mission-shaped communities.  We have those tools and resources.  We’ve road tested our materials in churches and with leaders.  We know they’re effective and cultivate mission-shaped transformation.   We're committed to providing the best resources for the church and its leadership.
